How to be a modern batman?

Well I was thinking this over and I came to one question. If batman was real he probably wouldn't be the richest person in the world. So how could a person who couldn't afford all the high tech gear be batman? What would they use in place of all these things Bruce Wayne has. Example: Bat-cave, gadgets, bat-mobile, etc. Any ideas?
