Is there a forge-based video game?

Its a bit far out and not really what you want, but Spore is based upon creation of buildings, objects and vehicles, and in the 'space stage' you fly around either destroying or befriending those on other planets, and shaping and changing planets. It may seem like a childish sort of game, but you can make some pretty looking stuff if you know how.
