What is the theme of this vignette from the book the house on mango street.?

i just finished reading this book...didn't really like it....i would say that it is just comparison, or maybe even insecurity since she is so worried about wat other ppl think...especially when she pays a character $5 to be her friend...idk if u read that part yet but..... good luck
